We are a volunteer led community facility operating for the benefit of the community. We provide a friendly, fun and safe place for people to meet and meetings to be held. Our service is focused on preventing/relieving poverty, providing information, advice and support with money advice and child safety, and, access to other agencies' surgeries, e.g. health or legal advice.

Brooksbank’s Debt & Benefits Advice Service offers free, impartial advice to help people in Dundee deal with debt & benefit issues. We take a holistic approach, considering how we help people access other specialist services. Our advisers are experienced and approachable; they understand how mental and physical health problems affect people's ability to work or look after their day-to-day needs.

Brooksbank and Dundee City Council’s Welfare Rights Team have advisers located in ten different GP surgeries in the city; patients can access appointments at their GP surgery (if listed). Attending GP surgeries reduces stigma and increases accessibility. These advisers can carry out benefit checks and help patients fill out benefit forms, challenge benefit decisions and access energy grants; they can also provide a range of debt options and help patients access legal advice where needed.

With patients’ permission, the advisers can access supporting medical evidence for benefit applications. This is why we ask people which GP surgery they are registered with, as it may make more sense for a referral to be passed to Dundee City Council. Although the council’s Welfare Rights Team are not using FORT, if the client gives consent for their details to be passed to the Welfare Rights Senior Officer, we can arrange for this.
